The Big Bear 2017 Old Miners Chili Cook Off is blazing onto the scene at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017. This Chili Cook Off will take place in the Bartlett Street Parking Lot, in the heart of The Big Bear Lake Village. The world-class Big Bear Old Miners Chili Cook Off contestants prepare red chili; chili verde and homemade salsa for judging.
You’ll love the variety of chili cooks and chili enthusiasts for the best tasting chili in the west! Sanctioned by the International Chili Society, the festivities include more than 40 Chili Cooks, Vendors, a Live Music Stage, and a Children’s Game Area. There will be lots of entertainment, live bands, beer, dancing, DJs, a Miss Chili Pepper contest, a Shoot n’ Holler Contest, the Outhouse Races, treats and so, much more. You’ll have a blast! And don’t forget your Tums!
The annual Big Bear Old Miners Chili Cook Off is free to attend. For the chili enthusiasts there’s a $5 tasting kit fee so you can indulge in the great bowls of fire!
With all the great live music, beer drinking, chili tasting, and vendor shopping going into high gear by midday, the outrageous Outhouse Races will start at 1 p.m. You’ll be seeing the fastest “People-Powered-Pottys in the West! During this crazy battle of the mobile outhouses, the driver sits on a porcelain potty throne inside an actual outhouse on wheels. The teams push these high speed port-a-potties forward to traverse a truly treacherous course. A People’s Choice Award is given for “The Best Decorated Outhouse and Team Costumes.” The Outhouse Championship Team is awarded the, “Golden Outhouse Trophy”.
