The chill, the cabin and the candy!

October may be one of the best months to visit Big Bear Lake this year! Situated only a couple hours away from most LA cities, this friendly and modest town knows how to bring the FUN to a weekday or weekend adventure. So, where does Big Bear Lake fall in the spectrum of FALL activities? Let’s take a look! You may have noticed Big Bear can have less traffic in October; but that does not mean the events should be passed up! Booking a cabin, settling in and enjoying the scenery (and the changing colors) may be your goal when taking a vacation in the mountains, but if you stay this month you may not want to pass up the unique and following adventurous events:
The Oktoberfest Unplugged: This Friday October 14th experience California’s favorite German festival (established in 1971) in a totally new way! The Oktoberfest hosts designed a special menu to serve Friday of exotic fare such as German sausages, herring, veal schnitzel, Rindsrouladen and several other meal choices in contrasting flavors and textures. Of course, you can’t forget the selection of German beers and spirits! Festivities begin at 6:00 PM with dinner served at approximately 7:00 PM. They plan a full night of German fun, great food and entertainment.  You will not want to miss a moment! After booking your cabin, book this event at: www.bigbearevents.com for your entire party.

This October, the Alpine Zoo is bringing back one of its popular attractions every Friday and Saturday night: the flashlight safari! At night the animals roam in their nocturnal setting which completely contrasts their daytime routines! Admission is free under two years old and only $9 for ages 3-10 and $12 for adults. Be sure to bring a flashlight and warm clothes! The fun starts at 6:30 to 8:30 PM…. Just remember to bring your flashlight!

If you want FREE live music at an awesome and intimate venue, look no further than “The Cave”, located in Big Bear’s main downtown Village streets. The doors will open at 6:30 PM with the concert starting at 7:30 PM. Delicious food and drinks are also for sale to enjoy with your show. Call or visit website for more information at: www.thecavebigbear.com

It’s never too early to start planning your best Halloween ever, especially in October! For kids, that means wishing for lots of candy and planning the best costume they can think up. When you visit Big Bear with your children, all month long through October 31st, you can all celebrate “Fall-O-Ween” at Gold Rush Mining Adventures. No frights, only fun! You can purchase the “Treat and Treasure” mining adventure, as well as roam their haunted boardwalk and ghost town complete with its own unique history. Costumed kids even get a special treat! Located at 40016 Big Bear Blvd and open from 10 AM to 5 PM daily.

As you may have noticed, it is almost Halloween! For years, Big Bear Lake has been a well-kept secret for Halloween fun! The downtown Village closes the roads and becomes a safe haven for trick-or-treaters of all ages. Take a walk around in the hunt for candy and in an environment free of traffic. The trick-or-treating starts at 4:30 PM and continues into the evening!

Even if you plan to stay in and enjoy the fireplace or spa at your rental cabin, that’s still a wonderful way to celebrate the fall season and enjoy Big Bear Lake as your vacation destination of choice.
