Big Bear Zipline

Big Bear Lake might be just a 2-hour drive from Los Angeles but you’ll feel like you’d be away from the hustle and bustle of the city once you get there. Famous for being a year-round mountain destination,  there are various types of outdoor activities for kids to enjoy.

As summer is just around the corner, kids can look forward to a lot of things. From the Scenic Sky Chair to the top of Snow Summit for the best views all the way to San Bernardino National Forest, they can go hiking and do cross-country and downhill mountain biking trails.

Now here are more adventures that kids can expect at Big Bear Lake:

  • Big Bear Discovery Center. This center is a great first stop as the staff can orient you with outdoor adventures. From camping plans, hiking to mountain-biking, you can enjoy the great outdoors and obtain necessary permits and passes as well. The great thing about the center is that it provides educational exhibits about flora, fauna and geology. There’s also a wilderness-focused gift shop and kid-specific programs. For kids 6 and under, story times are occasionally scheduled and kids ages 7 to 13 can enjoy the Junior Forest Ranger.
  • Big Bear Alpine Zoo. The Alpine Zoo is located in the heart of Big Bear Lake. It has rehabilitated and rescued wildlife since 1959. The staff provides shelter to animals that can’t be released back into the wild. Hence, animals are given a permanent home. There are about 140 different animals — wolves, mountain lions, grizzly bear family, and bald eagles.
  • Snow Summit Adventure Park. Snow Summit is a perfect spot for families to enjoy especially in the summer months. With the mile-long Scenic Sky Chair, families can get to the top at about 8,200 feet above sea level and enjoy the panoramic views and long hikes in the San Bernardino National Forest. There’s also a bike rental shop that offers downhill and cross country bike rentals, helmets and gear for adults and for kids from age 7 to 12.
  • Action Zipline Tours. With action zipline tours, you can enjoy a three-hour tour in the National Forest. The guides will teach rope-climbing techniques and will show you around the area. Using an off-road jeep safari, the company offers a three-hour ziplining adventure, nine zip line runs and an exciting walk at the suspension bridge.

With ideal conditions like sunny blue skies, perfect weather conditions, scenic meadows, and breathtaking views, you can never go wrong with Big Bear when it comes to outdoor recreation. Choose from plenty of vacation rentals in Big Bear and find the best place for you and your family!
