Big Bear Lake Events 8/17/16

It’s another beautiful day in sunny Big Bear Lake, California! Step outside your cabin door and breathe in the crisp, clean mountain air. You may have heard about the large scope of the wild fires around Southern California, but there isn’t a trace of smoke or smell in the air here at 7,000 feet! Come on up and enjoy your stay at one of many Big Bear Property Service’s cabins. Forget about the weekday drag! You deserve a weekend away from the workload. Big Bear Lake is open and ready for you and your guests to come up and play this weekend! Here are just five of the showcased events and major activities going on this weekend:

The 18th Annual “Art on the Lake” Exhibit

The Arts Council of Big Bear Valley presents the 18th Annual Fine Arts Festival: “Art on the Lake”. Saturday viewing hours are 10 AM to 7 PM and Sunday hours will be 10 AM to 4 PM. Admission is FREE.  There will be galleries on display as well as multiple vendors of not only art, but great gifts and items for all ages and hobbies. This yearly event is located at 630 Bartlett Road near the Visitor’s Center, just a short walk to beautiful Big Bear Lake.

15th Annual Big Bear Renaissance Faire

August 20th to 21st, 2016 is showcasing the 15th Annual Renaissance Faire that brings knights, wenches, pirates and bags of loot to the shore of Big Bear located at 39115 Rim of the World Drive at the old Pedersen Sawmill. The main attraction is the jousting; which features riders with courage wearing armor, lances and fighting for the highest rank of honor. Also at the Faire are several stages of entertainment including three general stages, a children’s stage, and a NC-17 stage. As usual, classic food and beverage can be purchased – check out the soup in bread bowl combo! Yummy! Guests should also expect to see full-costumed vendors with treasure and garments for sale. The merriment will begin at 10 AM and end at 6 PM both Saturday and Sunday.

Music in the Mountains: The Eagles Tribute Band

The always popular Eagles Tribute at the Discovery Center will take to the stage on Saturday August 20th. Be prepared, this musical event almost always sells out!  Call (909)-382-2790 for ticket info and prices. I recommend you bring a comfy chair or blanket; general seating is first come, first served.

33rd Annual Antique Wooden Boat Show

When August 20th arrives you will be able to have a look at the stunning boat offerings provided by the Antique Wooden Boat Show! The show features classics and vintage boats not normally seen unless privately collected. Boats will be on display at Pine Knot Landing. The cost to enter and view these amazing boats is FREE; hours if viewing are 9 AM to 3 PM. This is definitely a rare event the whole family can enjoy!

The Mermaid Treasures at Gold Rush Mining Adventures

This activity is for the kids, or, the big kid at heart! Starting from August 15th and ending on September 4th you can take a trip to “Gold Rush Mining Adventures” located at 40016 Big Bear Blvd and explore the various ocean treasures found by mermaids! Lots of sea items to explore!  The loot is real! If your children enjoyed “Finding Nemo” or “Finding Dory” this is one fun activity they just can’t miss!  Please call 909-866-5678 for full details and times of this unique and memorable event.

As for general activities, there are multiple hiking trails to explore, a lake with vessels to rent or even swim in, as well as zip lines from ACTION Tours and short flights on a helicopter to explore! Escape the city and discover the biggest backyard you’ll ever find in Big Bear Lake. A typical drive from LA or San Diego is typically only two hours! Want to stay longer than a day trip?
